Earlier this year my husband went overseas for a year. I’ve done this several times. I thought it wouldn’t have a big impact on me. Well it did but not in the way that some may think. I did not realize it until recently that I began stress eating. I was also completing my M.Ed. in record time (2 semesters); therefore, I would drink an ungodly amount of soda and energy drinks. Sometimes I would be drinking Mountain Dew, while sipping on Monster and having a cup of coffee at the same time. My course loads did not change from the time before my husband left, so why did I suddenly need so much junk? I used it as a crutch. Then bam…the weight started coming on. My skirts began shrinking (well, I would jokingly say that there were evil minions in the dryer sewing my clothes smaller). I knew I needed to change but I was not motivated to change.
In 2011, my husband was overseas and I dropped 30 pounds by changing my eating habits. When we moved later that year, I went back to my old ways. The weight came back over several years. I also injured my ankle in late 2012, which increase my weight gain because I needed physical therapy then surgery then more PT and rest. I was then at a catch 22. I couldn’t lose weight because of my ankle but my ankle couldn’t heal because of my weight.
The motivation came when one day I stepped on the scale and I saw a number I had never seen before! I never weighed this much when I was pregnant with any of my 3 wonderful children! I hit 175!!! I didn’t weight 100lbs until I became pregnant with my son at age 22 (I worked at McDonald’s for 3 years during high school and college without gaining weight!). I thought the scale was wrong. How could I weight ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-FIVE POUNDS! I suddenly realized, I had to do something. If not for me, for my family. I spent many afternoons hurting from the pain in my ankle because it could not handle the weight. My children were missing out. I could not do this to them nor to my husband.
My husband’s friend started a health company, My Health 90. I’ve seen many videos of the founder, Matt Maddix, preaching over the years (he’s a minister as well as a life coach). So I’ve seen the transformation that he’s made in his own life through research, clean eating, and being a living example. If anyone could provide true motivation it would be Matt and his business partner, Mike Hopkins. I had seen them both on a internet talk show they co-hosted, so I knew there was a spark between them that could set people on fire-in a positive way. I decided to give my mom and I a Mother’s Day gift of the program My Health 90. So far I have lost 16-17 lbs. My weight is 158-159. It was slow weight loss for a while because I could only handle walking for 20 minutes a day, which is the minimum the program/process requires.
Now this week I am able to start running again. In 2011, I could run a 9 minute mile; now that is impossible. I have to start slowly by running every other day until I rebuild my strength and stamina. The changes that My Health 90 brought are not just centered on food and exercise but upon the mental changes. I have changed the types of magazines that I read. I choose to read magazines that are focused upon natural, organic, vegetarian/vegan, or holistic lifestyle. I am not a vegetarian or a vegan; I choose those magazines because they provide well balanced meals that I can use on my meatless days. If I want to cook a healthy vegetable dish, I will look to those who live that dietary lifestyle everyday.
At the same time I was beginning the My Health 90 (MH90) program, we were dealing with one child’s stomach issues. I did my own research to find out that gluten can cause digestive problems for some people. I took my son, RhinoMonkey, off gluten and dairy. Then added these products back in individually. The dairy did not have an effect upon him when removed and return. However, when breads were removed the problem started to go away and it returned when I added it back. After several doctors visits and tests, Celiac was ruled out but the doctor determined that RhinoMonkey is intolerant to gluten. The mind set and personal research that I had done because of MH90 made it easier to go Gluten-Free for him. Because I had been buying Ezekiel bread in the frozen section, I had seen the gluten free bread next to it and the gluten free section in Kroger next to the organic section. Six months ago, I would have been on the other side of the store looking at foods from the Standard American Diet.
A side benefit of going through the MH90 program, I started to follow Matt and his son on YouTube and Periscope. I realize I was missing something in my life. The joy of writing what is on my mind. I use to blog often (yep, lost them all when I switched from blogger to WordPress). Then I let other things come first. I realized I must set aside a few minutes everyday for myself to follow my passion. I am passionate about homeschooling which is why I called this blog Homeschooling Passion. One day, I want to be on a TED Talk and to speak at homeschool conferences. Eventually, I will write a book about homeschooling as well. I will write the book AFTER I write my dissertation. (I’m aiming for a doctorate in education.)
When I sat down tonight to write, I intended to write about realizing I had let my passion for homeschooling wane. I did not initially set out to write about My Health 90. However, I must give credit to whom credit is due. Would I have found my way back to health and exercise on my own? Possibly. Would it have been this quick without daily videos and interactions? No. Would I have noticed how I had put my passion off to the side? No.
Is this an ad for MH90? No, not intentionally anyway. It is more of a testimony. I am an affiliate of MH90, but I believe in the program so much I will not give the link with my affiliate number attached to it. I believe in it so much that I won’t give out my affiliate because I don’t want to sell something to someone. I want to GIVE away what I have found that has helped me. Go check out the website for yourself by searching MY HEALTH 90. I won’t post the link directly here because I know that links can be manipulated to be shorter or hide the link in text. I want those who read this to trust that I am not pitching a sale for my benefit. You will not be disappointed if you give it a try.
